College of
Chemical and Life Science's
Science in the Evening Program
Enrollment and Registration Process:
Spring 2008
Please read the following information carefully regarding enrolling in the Science in the Evening Program at the University of Maryland College Park:
Enrollment Process:
Science in the Evening (SIE) courses are limited to students who have enrolled as a part of the SIE program. Please follow the Apply Online link and apply as a transfer non-degree seeking post-bacculaureate student. If you have any questions email spoc-science@umd.edu. Students enrolled in the Science in the Evening (SIE) program website are listed in the UM system as a non-degree seeking post-baccalaureate student. Once enrolled as a SIE student, this portal allows students to register early for SIE courses that have open seats. Registration usually opens around November 1 for spring courses and around May 1 for fall courses.
Like all other non-degree seeking students, SIE students have access to the daytime offerings at UM ONLY after all other students have registered. Non-degree seeking students, including those taking SIE courses, are usually allowed to register for daytime offerings on the first day of each semester. (This does not apply to summer classes and as such SIE students can register when summer registration opens (Feb. 25, 2008 for summer 2008).
If a post-bac student wants to earn a bachelors degree in conjunction with their goals he/she must apply to UM as a degree-seeking transfer student. This is more involved than the process of gaining access to SIE courses. A degree-seeking transfer student must fill out the entire UM application, must have official transcripts sent to UM, and must be accepted to UM in order to take courses. Once accepted the student must attend a transfer student orientation, see an advisor each semester, must satisfy university requirements such as freshman English and math and meet all benchmarks towards earning their degree. Degree seeking students must then work with Dr. Presson to get permission to enroll in SIE classes.
If you have a bachelor's degree and have NEVER enrolled at University of Maryland College Park (UMCP), you must first complete application materials for UMCP in order to register for Science in the Evening courses. The most direct enrollment path for students not currently enrolled at UMCP is to apply as a non-degree seeking post- baccalaureate transfer student. Please complete the online application and include $55 non-refundable application processing fee. Please complete the process by submitting your "Course Request Form," and other materials (including all undergraduate transcripts) to SPOC at the address or fax number below.
If you have a bachelor's degree and are currently enrolled in the Science in the Evening Program at the University of Maryland College Park (UMCP) as a non-degree seeking transfer student, you may register for Science in the Evening courses by completing the "Course Request/Registration Form," and returning it to SPOC.
If you were previously enrolled at the University of Maryland College Park (UMCP), you may need to "Reenroll" in the university or apply as a non-degree seeking post- baccalaureate transfer student. Please contact SPOC to determine which path is most appropriate in your case. See the policy below about immunization records.
Registration Process:
Registration will begin May 1, 2008 for the Fall 2008 Semester.
Once you have enrolled with the Science in the Evening program, you should complete the Course Registration Form -Fall 2008 and submit it to the SPOC office. You will be notified via e-mail once your registration has been processed.

Note: Students who are currently enrolled as full-time undergraduate students at UMCP will be charged the part-time per credit hour rate for Science in the Evening courses in addition to their regular tuition and fees for daytime courses.
University of Maryland Immunization Policy
