Advising for SIE students is obtained in two venues. Before and during your semesters in SIE you should see Dr. Presson for academic and career planning advising. Appointments with Dr. Presson are scheduled by Linda Dalo at 301-405-6892. Information about health professions can also be found at the pre-health professions website: http://www.prehealth.umd.edu/.
When you are ready to apply to a professional school - meaning you will complete your coursework in your current semester- you may want to meet with the pre-health professions advisor, Wendy Loughlin. Information about how to reach Ms. Loughlin can be found on the pre- health website listed above.
If you are interested in applying to medical school you will also find much useful information at the AAMC website: http:// www.aamc.org/.
Pay special attention to the MCAT interpretive manual found at: http://www.aamc.org/students/mcat/mcatinterpmanual05.pdf.
At the end of this manual is an outline of the subjects covered by the MCAT. To best prepare for taking the MCAT we recommend that postbacs take the following SIE courses. A strong college math course at the level of algebra or higher is required as a pre- requisite for all of these courses.
