Faculty Spotlight
Dr. Higgins - Many University of Maryland students have become success doctors, dentists, and other health care providers. One of our graduates is even the Dean of Admissions at a prominent medical school. If you run into one of our successful students and ask what was the most useful course they took here in preparation for MCAT and med school the answer almost always is Mam Phys with Dr. Higgins. They may tell you it was the hardest course they took here, but by far one of the most useful.
Dr. Higgins was trained as a physiologist at Florida State University . After he completed his Ph.D. he came to UMCP in 1973 as an Assistant Professor. From his first days on campus Dr. Higgins made a big impact on students and on the University. He has been honored by many teaching and service awards, including the prestigious William E. Kirwan Award for Excellence in Undergraduate Education in 2005. Nearly two dozen master's degrees have been awarded under his mentorship, and Dr. Higgins has brought in millions of dollars in grant money to support undergraduate education.
Through all these years of service Dr. Higgins has taught Mammanlian Physiology. This spring we are very pleased that Dr. Higgins has agreed to teach this pivotal course to post-bac students in Science in the Evening. If you have the pre-requisites and have not signed up for BSCI440 Spring 2007, this is the semester to take this course with Dr. Higgins.
